Do you have any comments?

I wanted to thank all the Cavaliers who knew John Hansen for all the e-mails they have sent me and pictures of him. It has meant alot to me. I know it was over 30 years ago he was killed but just reading how it happened brings back so many memories. My sister knew John too and I was telling her about the stories of men who knew John in Vietnam and she remembers back in July 1969 when on a certain day she felt a real foreboding of something bad that had happened. I think it probably was the day John was killed.

I found a poem I rewrote about the war:

An Orange Sun spills on my back,
touching me in a wasteland where
warmth's been shut down like my heart and my soul.
Today I saw my buddy die.
Only 19 years old, not old enough to vote,
old enough to die. We lifted him off the ground,
I couldn't see anything but blood and tears.
Mama, I'll never see home again.
The West Virginia hill,
The Montana skies,
Oregon's ocean shores,
or the Dakota plains.
I'll never catch a firefly or dance in the rain.
Today I saw my buddy die
in a place called Vietnam.

Love,

Deborah

John Hansen was there approximately from Jan 1969 and was shot down June 1969

Where are you from?

Anchorage, AK

Do you have any comments?

I was wondering if anyone knew John Currie Hansen? He was from my home-town in Cascade Locks, Oregon and was shot down June of 1969 and was in this unit. He was my field boss one summer before he must have left for flight training probably around 20 years old. I was just a kid then around 13 and when I found out he'd been killed in Vietnam it really bothered me. He was the first man I knew personally who'd been killed in the war. He was in the Air Cavalier and Cecil Smith who I was told now lives in Texas personally knew him. Cecil, if you read this can you please respond? I've written a couple of stories about John as I enjoy writing short stories and just doing research to see if anyone knew him and what he looked like and what he was like. I read the story you wrote the last night he was alive and that he was playing the guitar like nothing else. My sister knew him as a little kid and he had blond hair and blue eyes. His mother was my Algebra Teacher in High School. I now live in Anchorage, AK and visited my hometown in Oregon recently and found out that John is buried at the Williamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. If anyone can help please e-mail me. I visited the high-school where we both attended and forgot to look at his picture.
I just remember him being fairly tall and nice looking.

Thanks so much,

An Oregon gal who remembers Vietnam (The first boy I kissed was just home from Vietnam! I never told my mother though.

Randy Zahn invited me along for a "wee bit of a helicopter cross-country" from Reno, Nevada to Juneau, Alaska... in an Astar 350B2. You can read all about it, and see some great pictures here on Greg's site http://www.gmcnair.com/ak.htm

(We should have Section 15, when the ERA pilots and staff went with the Juneau Mountain Rescue Team into the ice crevaces on Taku Glacier and THE END up in a day or two.)

Cheers, and enjoy,

Hello to all. Just read about our loss of Bob Young in the Bullwhip Squadron News. I guess I'm takin this hard. He served in C Troop in 65-66. I served with him in 2/17Cav at Ft. Campbell in the early 80s. He was the Squadron CO, and I was the C Troop XO and HHT CO. I had a chance to talk to him at the last reunion. I did not know he had any health problems, and certainly 63 is not old. He went on from 2/17Cav to serve as the aviation brigade commander in the 1st Armored Div at Ft. Hood and retired as a full Colonel.

Halfway down the trail to hell is a shady meadow green, where the souls of all dead troopers camp.....

Please help get the word out about the name plates from the original Memorial at Ft. Rucker. I just got Ken's and the curator said it would be a privilege to send them all out. His name is Steve Maxham. Here is his reply to me with his address: MaxhamS2@rucker.army.mil.

Glen -

By all means feel free to contact any and every family member you are aware of that would be interested, as well as any brothers that may have crew mates that are listed. Trust me when I tell you that while all of my days are indeed full, nothing I do is so important that I would not take the time from any given day to fulfill a request for something like this. I have refused to recycle the several hundred pounds of brass plates over many years for this very reason. You are the first one that I will have returned to a rightful place. My hope is that it will not be the last.

Steve

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all. I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you who make this web site great. Remember this is your site and without your input, donations and encouragement it will wither and stagnate.
We have had a good year. We filled up our original allotment of space on our server and have secured more. We average about 20 visits a day which is not great by commercial standards perhaps but demonstrates that folks are interested in what we do. We also welcomed back two of our brave lads from Iraq, welcome home Sam and Brian.
I'd like to encourage everyone to keep looking in your musty footlockers for any old pics and orders and watch for news on get togethers. It is more than worth the effort to meet up with your brothers.
I hope we all have a prosperous and safe new year. Drop a note in the guestbook to let others know you're out there.

Hey Brothers and Sisters,

This is to wish you and yours, a great Christmas and Happy Holidays. Let's all think of our fellow veterans and their families, especially families of those former C Troopers that are no longer with their families. And also wish those soldiers who will be serving in the Middle East during Christma -- and especially their families -- the same we wish for our "own".

We're proud of our service in Vietnam, and we are proud of the service of those that are making the sacrifice now.

Hey former Troopers, family, and friends,

If you are seeking ANYONE that served in any 1/9th Troop, or want to contact anyone that served in the 1/9th, we might be of assistance.

If anyone who "was there" see's this -- whether one who served, or family, friend or bud, PLEASE leave a message. Don't hold back. Nothing will happen bad if you do. Something will happen good Trust me.

I am actually looking for any information on my husband's father. His name was Johnnie Lloyd Booth, he was a captain, and we know that he was in Charlie Company from some of the paperwork that we have discovered. From the dates that we have he would have served from 68-71 and would have served two tours. I know this is a shot in the dark - but we would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may have known him and has any stories. Thank you so much.

My brother SGT. Gregory Antunano was in the 1/9 with his best friend Chuck Watson. My brother is still missing in Cambodia. There have been a lot of developments in the past two years in his case. Anyone out there that served with my brother and Chuck that would like to contact me, please call me at (707)-429-1975 or email but i would perfer to speak with you as it is very comforting to talk with friends of my brother. Thank you for this website, I know my brother will never be forgotten by his brothers of the 1/9th.
Sincerly, Gary Antunano
